Comparing Wine Bottles

Wine bottles come in an array of shapes, sizes and colors, yet they all feature similar attributes such as a round body, slender neck and a narrow opening for a controlled pour. Bottle height, shoulder slope and base width are some of the more easily distinguished features that differentiate the variety of wine bottles available. Aside from shape and size, glass thickness can also be a factor when choosing packaging for sparkling varieties. Learn more about the different bottle types and which is best suited for your unique wine in our article, Wine Bottle Shapes.

Material:

Green Glass - Green glass provides limited ultraviolet protection and are often seen in the form of boston round bottles, wide mouth packers, and wine bottles. It is made by adding non-toxic Chrome Oxide (Cr+3) to the molten mixture. The color of the green glass may vary depending on the amount of oxidized iron chromate added. The higher the concentration, the darker the color will become. Wines and juices are often popular uses for green glass bottles. These liquids are able to handle some exposure to light without having the taste being affected.
