Phoenix Plastics has been developing and testing grade additives since 1996. Phoenix Plastics flame retardants are additives that are used to protect plastics from fire. Protection levels vary depending on the series chosen. Each retardant meets different fire/flame test standards. Some of these flame retardants are used with electronics, film products, timers, or light fixtures. We sell 13 types of Cel-Span® FR flame retardants.

  • A compounded non-halogen low smoke flexible conduit for electrical jacketing to compete with Union Carbide 638. This conduit easily passed the FT-4 flame test. - Cel-Span® FR 677 was designed, as a jacket for fire alarm cables that must meet the 2-hour fire endurance test UL 2196 at 1850 F. Groups of such cables must pass the IEEE 383 Cable Tray Test. This compound shows no dripping during flame test high flame retardancy and good process ability.

  • A developmental halogen-free concentrate for clear Polycarbonate resins for injections and extrusion applications - Cel-Span® F R 739 contains a superior non-halogen flame retardant concentrate system for transparent, polycarbonate compounds. Cel-Span® F R 739 concentrate, when diluted in the recommended levels, meets Underwriters’ Laboratories (UL)94V0 flame retardant requirements up to 1/32 thin sections. For thin sections, in addition to Cel-Span® F R 739, we recommend Cel-Span® F R 739 at 7-8% levels to achieve the UL 94V0 requirement.

This material can exceed UL-94 and VTM-0 at thickness as low as 0.002” and greater while maintaining contact clarity at typical film dimensions. Cel-Span® FR 780 retains excellent physical properties and applications may include foam, sheet, thermoforming and/or jacketing. This compound has also been uniquely designed to provide static dissipative electrical performance.

Thermoplastic Polyester Fibers produced from CelSpan® FR 789 and converted into needle punch fabric meet both NPFA 702 Vertical Burn Testing and at lower levels Horizontal Burn Testing.
