The 26W4PV is a 3/4" Tri-Sure HDPE vented plug with EPDM gasket. This closure is for use on steel drums that have a Tri-Sure flange. The 26W4PV can be applied with a Tri-Sure preset torque wrench (Part # 26WTSP).

Material:

High density polyethylene (HDPE ) is the most commonly used resin. This economical plastic has good impact and chemical resistance, is naturally translucent and flexible. It is typically used for personal care products such as shampoo bottles. Adding color will give HDPE an opaque look that will result in an increase in weight and rigidness. We have a variety of these rigid and tough high density polyethylene products in stock, from containers, pails, bottles, caps, tubs and jugs. HDPE works well in below freezing temperatures. HDPE heat compatibility varies. Maximum fill temperature is generally around 171°F; however, testing is recommended with your specific product and application. Distortion occurs between 220° to 250° F.

Do the ventilated drum plugs help prevent expansion of the drums?

Thank you for your inquiry. Ventilated drum plugs prevent non-flammable liquids from leaking during normal sloshing during transport and handling. Drums that contain flammable liquids require venting to relieve pressure build-up due to heat. These plugs can also prevent the creation of a vacuum when liquid is being drained out or the drum is subjected to sudden cooling. Either pressure or vacuum can cause failure of the container. In event of fire, the hazards of drum leakage or explosion due to excessive pressure build-up can be catastrophic. Thank you for choosing The Cary Company.

Can this vented drum plug be used for horizontal (gasoline) barrel position? What other 3/4" vented drum plugs are available for horizontal position drums?

We cannot confirm that this drum plug can safely store gasoline in a drum for extended periods. Over time, this type of drum plug will likely degrade from the corrosive effects of the gasoline. However, we do offer Type I and Type II metal safety cans that are specifically designed to store flammable liquids (like gasoline). These cans provide the proper ventilation for flammables and are made to withstand the corrosive effects of these liquids.
