Real-World Impact: 5 Gallon Pails Making a World of Difference

One of our most versatile items is the 5 gallon plastic pail. The sturdy containers can be used for transportation, storage, and more. The nonprofit, Utah Diné Bikéyah approached The Cary Company about a program to supply food to Navajo elders in 5 gallon pails. With these reusable pails, residents could collect and store water from their community well. UDB also partnered with Cary Design for the creation of their logo. Pails vs. Buckets
Believe it or not, there is a difference between a pail and a bucket. Our wide range of buckets and pails allow you to choose the right style for your needs. With countless uses, these containers are great due to their versatility. Our steel pails are a popular choice in the manufacturing, construction, and agriculture industries. Plastic pails, with bright color options, are a must-have for color coordination systems. After their initial use, pails and buckets can be reutilized for countless other needs, making them cost-effective, long-lasting resources. A 5 gallon bucket in a garden can take your planting to the next level. If you’re still stuck between a steel or plastic bucket, remember the dimensions of the two are different.

Material:

High-Density Polyethylene PlasticHigh density polyethylene (HDPE ) is the most commonly used resin. This economical plastic has good impact and chemical resistance, is naturally translucent and flexible. It is typically used for personal care products such as shampoo bottles. Adding color will give HDPE an opaque look that will result in an increase in weight and rigidness. We have a variety of these rigid and tough high density polyethylene products in stock, from containers, pails, bottles, caps, tubs and jugs. HDPE plastic has moderate heat tolerance, with a melting point ranging from 120°F-180°F depending on the product and application. Testing is recommended. HDPE also generally works well in below freezing temperatures.

Q & A
Customer Questions
What does the Pail Series mean?
Our pails and lids are classified as part of a designated Series, which makes pairing this pail with a compatible lid easier. Simply match the size (e.g., 5 gallon) and series (P5 Series) of the pail and lid to find a proper fit.
Can this round plastic pail be used for food products?
If the pail is FDA approved (listed under the Additional Information section of this product page), then it is safe to store and transport food and food ingredients.
Do you offer labeling services for this round plastic pail?
Yes, we offer design services, as well as screen printing, label printing and application services. You can request a quote from our design team by calling 630.629.6600 or emailing Sales@thecarycompany.com. For more information regarding the services we offer, please go to our Design Services page.
Can I use a pail heater for this round plastic pail?
Yes, you can use a pail heater with this pail. However, be sure the heater can be used on a plastic pail and find out what temperature the pail can withstand before applying the heater.
How many cubic feet in a 5 gallon pail?
The simple conversion of measurement of 5 gallons is 0.803 cubic feet. However, this is for the nominal capacity of the pail. The actual (overflow) capacity of a pail can vary from model to model. To calculate the full volume in cubic feet, for cylinder pails, you need to multiply π (3.14) x the pail radius (in feet) x the pail height (in feet). To calculate the volume for square pails, multiply the pail's length x width x height (in feet).
