Burgundy bottles feature gently sloping shoulders and a wide body. The larger base allows for a sturdy bottle for both white and red wine alike. Originally used for Pinots and Chardonnays, Burgundy bottles are now used for most reds similar to Pinot Noir. Most white wines that have been oak aged are bottled in this bottle style. Burgundy bottles are very similar to Rhône bottles, but are typically shorter and wider.
