This size is considered to be the most convenient size for handling and transporting both solid and liquid materials. While 55 gallon drums are large enough to hold a substantial amount of content, they’re not so large that it makes manual transport difficult. This makes them a versatile choice across various industries. 

Cary offers several other sizes of drums and barrels to meet the needs of any application – big or small. Our drums and barrels are available in sizes starting at 5 gallons all the way up to 275 gallons.

The Cary Company offers drums and barrels in four main materials: carbon steel, stainless steel, plastic, and fiber.

Carbon steel drums are designed for storing and shipping a variety of products such as solids, liquids, and chemicals. UN Rated steel drums are certified to meet UN requirements for hazardous materials. Carbon steel drums are available in both tight head and open head options.

Stainless steel drums can be used for chemicals, food, water, or wine depending on their certifications. Available in stainless steel 304 or 316, these drums can have either an open or closed top to best suit your application. 

Plastic drums are lightweight and durable choices for storing and transporting various materials such as foods, liquids, and hazardous materials. They are available in both open and tight head options for easy filling and dispensing.

Fiber drums, made from dense cardboard-like material, offer a lightweight and durable solution for shipping and storing dry goods. Fiber drums can be easily opened and include a tamper evident sealing feature.
