Be sure to not remove the caps from the jugs, as it ensures the caps are also recycled. Caps can be too small to enter the recycling process themselves and pose the risk of getting lost. 

Before putting your plastic jugs in your curbside recycling bin or taking them to a local recycling facility, remember to check and see which types of plastic they can afford to accept.

Most manufacturers recommend that you only use plastic gallon jugs once, as they can grow harmful bacteria at a quick rate. If you do plan on reusing plastic jugs, be sure to wash them thoroughly and try not to reuse them more than once. Plastic jugs shouldn’t be reused if they start showing signs of wear and tear such as cracks and scratches. Some tears can be microscopic and hard to see, which is another reason gallon jugs are only recommended to be used once.
