    Fiber drums are a versatile storage option when looking for a way to transport your products. Fiber drums can be UN rated, FDA compliant, weather resistant, and waterproof. The Cary Company offers a variety of fiber drums to best fit your needs. We carry various fiber drum sizes from 6 gallons to 75 gallons, including common sizes such as 10 gallons, 15 gallons, 30 gallons, and 55 gallon fiber drums.

    Please note: Not all fiber drums are FDA approved for food storage.

    What Are Fiber Drums? Why Should I Use One?

    Fiber drums are lightweight, durable bulk containers for shipping and storing goods. These drums are environmentally friendly since they are made from recycled materials. Fiber drums, primarily made of corrugated fiber reinforced with steel, are durable due to their design. The corrugated fiber is a dense, multi-layered material sturdier than cardboard due to its layered construction. Their cylindrical shape evenly distributes pressure which makes them suitable for heavy loads. Fiber drums are secured with a lever lock ring and resist bacterial growth.

    These drums feature a full open top, allowing for quick filling and dispensing of products. Because they are made from cardboard, they are lighter than plastic or steel, making it a cost-effective storage container.

    Can Fiber Drums Be UN Rated?

    Yes, some of our fiber drums are UN rated for hazardous materials. The Cary Company offers a variety of FDA approved fiber drums to store food grade items.

    Are Fiber Drums Waterproof?

    Fiber drums are made of strong Kraft material that comes from cardboard. Kraft paper can be weatherproof and waterproof. It’s important to note that not all fiberboard drums will be made this way. Keeping cardboard drums from getting wet will be best to ensure their quality. 

    The Cary Company offers PE lined fiber drums suitable for liquid and semi-liquid applications. These drums have a plastic lining that is more suitable for transporting liquid products.

    What Are Common Uses For Fiber Drums?

    • Powders such as dry chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and food-grade powders such as flour and sugar (may require UN rating or FDA compliance)
    • Liquids including food oils (may require UN rating or FDA compliance)
    • Spices and dried herbs such as paprika, black pepper, oregano, and more (must be FDA compliant)
    • Hazardous materials that are corrosive or flammable (requires UN rating)
    • Adhesives used commonly in industrial, construction, and woodworking applications

    Understanding UN Ratings

    Developed as a set of standards, by the United Nations, UN ratings are essential for shipping or storing hazardous materials. The UN rating is a series of number and letter codes that show what a container is regulated to handle. They determine this through a series of tests that all containers must undergo if they are to be UN rated. Current UN Regulations are enforced by the D.O.T.
